Kristin Mullen has led an artful life. Her inspirational journey has culminated in her passion for interior design and nourished an innate ability to create incomparably beautiful surroundings for her clients. Kristin, one of Dallas’ most promising up-and-coming designers, established Covetable Designs in 2005 after 20 years of living and traveling in the United States, Europe and Asia. Her work has been featured in “Beautiful Kitchens” and will be highlighted in an upcoming issue of “Beautiful Baths.”
Kristin knows her own mind, has a spirit of adventure and is willing to take on risk. She relishes the challenges different design venues bring – from new construction to whole-house remodeling to individual rooms. Over the years she has lived in a 1928 Tudor in suburban New York and a 1928 Craftsman-inspired cottage in London’s quaint Dulwich Village, so she has in-depth renovation experience.
Her style is undoubtedly traditional with a twist – an edgy balancing act of Eurasian and American, vintage and modern, clean lined but comfortable. Kristin melds disparate elements, blending antiques and quality reproductions with open-air market finds and family treasures for a timeless magical mix. Her pièce de résistance is adding a touch of nature to every space.
Kristin has created easygoing-but-elegant surroundings in her Dallas home. She’s repurposed furniture for a touch of the avant garde – from lacquering fauteuil chairs persimmon red to using an old garden bench as an attention-grabbing settee in the entryway. “I learned from my mother, who was recycling design elements long before it was trendy,” she says.
Kristin takes her hectic but artful life in stride, putting her family first but always making time for design. She knows inspiration is just around the corner, and she wants to be ready.
